What Does Medicare Cost?

2016 Costs At A Glance

PART A PREMIUM: The majority of people do not pay a monthly premium for Part A (which is sometimes called “Premium-Free Part A”). If you do have to pay for Part A, the cost is $411 every month.

 

PART A HOSPITAL INPATIENT DEDUCTIBLE & COINSURANCE: Each benefit period has a deductible of $1,288. When you are in the hospital from day 1-60, you pay $0 for coinsurance. Days 61-90 you pay $322 coinsurance every day, for each benefit period. If you are in the hospital for longer than 90 days, you pay $644 coinsurance for each “lifetime reserve day” and after day 90 for each benefit period. If you are in the hospital longer than lifetime reserve days you are responsible for all costs.

PART B DEDUCTIBLE & COINSURANCE: Typically, people pay $166 per year. After you reach your deductible, most people pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for the majority of doctor services (including while you are in hospital), outpatient therapy and durable medical equipment.
